We found one of our oldest friends while on a road trip. At a gas station, we noticed an employee yelling at a dog to go away and shooing her towards the highway.
In an instant, my brother rushed outside to grab the dog before she was in danger and brought her to our car. He then scolded the employee for risking the animal’s life by chasing her towards a highway just 20 feet away! She had obviously already been struck by a car and would not have survived a second time…
Meanwhile, I spoke to the manager of the gas station. He explained that the owner was not taking care of the dog because the dog had some kind of ‘infectious skin disease’ so no one should come close or try to touch her.
At this point, my brother had already put the dog in the car and turned the car around back towards our shelter.
We took her to our vet and learned that she has allergic dermatitis which is very treatable and not contagious. Because she is old, she needs medication daily for the rest of her life.
We can only imagine the dog probably would have starved to death from people being ignorant and afraid if we hadn’t stopped for gas that day. Instead, we’re blessed to know “Cotton Candy,” the name my brother gave to her.
After 8 weeks of daily treatment
Now Cotton Candy is always at home with us except for short walks to pee. She never pees inside the. She has her unique way of “asking to go peeing” if that what you can call it. Words fail to describe it, so instead, just watch for yourself in the video below.
