Pablo is a Cane Corso breed and was trained as a fighting dog since birth. When we met him at 2 1/2 years old, he had been in the dogfight rings for over a year. He still carries the scars from those terrible times.
He only ever lost one fight, but that was enough to draw the rage from his owner. He would give him only raw bread for food and kick him in memory of that lost fight every time he saw him.
Finally, one of his neighbors approached him witnessing this torture for 3 weeks and was yelled at for his trouble. The owner even admitted that he would leave the dog to die because of his lost fight, at which point the neighbor knew he had to act. The neighbor informed the local authorities but when he didn’t get a response, he reached out to us and explained Pablo’s situation. How Pablo was seized from his owner is another harrowing tale we won’t discuss.
After 6 long months of rehabilitation with the organization Rescue Strays, he is now retrained on “how to feel love, to be loved, and how to love back.” He is now a friend and protector of any living thing.
Here is the rescue story of Pablo A Cane Corso Breed Dog Fighter.
This was his status once we found Pablo.
After 4 weeks of personal rehabilitation from Nuray and Suleyman His 1st day at Rescue Strays.
When introducing new friends, we were very careful not to startle Pablo since he could react wildly at any time and can kill a dog in an instant. His breed is Cane Corso, These breeds can be very dangerous. We were fully aware of the dangers and had to keep him chained.
We first introduce Tenten our Primer rehabilitator. TenTen knows where the chain ends and never comes closer than that, so she was the perfect friend to introduce to Pablo. She never crosses the line but plays with these wild animals and teaches them that we are not an enemy, but are friends.
After 1 week with TenTen, we introduce Mayaki our second rehabilitator to Pablo.
After 2 weeks with TenTen and Mayaki, we introduce our other friends by opening Pablo’s place door for 2 hours a day and supervise the whole time. But still, keep him chained while introducing new friends.
After 6 weeks of controlled introduction, we allow Pablo to be free in certain areas of the shelter in a controlled way for 4 hours a day.
After 4 weeks of allowing Pablo in certain areas, we started to take him to the house for human rehabilitation. So he won’t attack humans. Cane Corso breeds love humans, We need to remind him that.

Rehabilitated
Now, every night he stays with us in the house. Even if he is Cane Corso breed, he’s afraid of the dark by himself and will not stop barking until he is allowed inside near his friends. Once inside, he just wants to curl up in his spot and lay until bedtime. He’d love to snuggle up with you but if you leave him outside of your bedroom, he snuggles up with any animal in the house. Specially Tenten and Mayaki. His first friends and rehabilitators.
