Rescue Story of Hamlet

We visited this stray dog every day until he finally let us pet him to take him to our shelter.

When we learned about a dog who had been abandoned at a nearby factory, we immediately knew we had to help him. We as rescue strays never pass up an opportunity to help an animal in need. When we drove out to the factory, the dog refused to come anywhere near us.

No matter what we tried, he was just too scared. He wouldn’t stop barking and eventually ran away. Even though it broke our hearts to leave him behind, we knew we had to leave so the dog doesn’t fear us for the future. If so we would not have a chance to catch him.

Despite the dog’s fear, we knew we couldn’t give up. The next day, we went back to try and earn his trust.

We bought 5 hamburgers and headed out to the factory,  we were there and we sat at a distance for up to three hours at a time, and just tossed him hamburgers. This way we would like to gain his trust.

Every time we tried to get closer to him, he would run away. We even tried bringing other dogs, and though he was excited to see another dog, he still refused to go anywhere near us.

Then, on the seventh day of trying, things started to change. He would wait for us to get to the factory by sitting at the end of the driveway rather than hiding under his shed, However, he still wouldn’t let us go near him.

The progress was slow, but we refused to lose hope and finally, on the tenth day, the dog decided he was ready to trust us.

When we pulled up on the tenth day, the dog came running to our car. Akin stuck his hand out the window and he immediately licked it. We were shocked. We got out of our car and he started wagging his tail. We knew today was the day.

We slowly began to approach the dog, and this time he didn’t run away. Instead, he lay down, so we held out her hand for him to smell before finally trying to pet him for the very first time.

Akin placed his hand on top of his head and started to pet him, Akin was nervous how he would react.  Akin was afraid maybe he would bite, but he did not. He looked at Akin and he surrendered to Akin. After days of trying, we were finally able to pick the dog up and place him in our car, ensuring his safety at last. The poor dog was covered in fleas, ticks, and burrs, and he was matted and very skinny, so we knew he would need time to rest and recover. After taking him to the vet, we took him home to our shelter and so far he’s been settling in better than we could have imagined.

Now he is doing absolutely amazing, We love being able to see his personality come out each day. You can tell how grateful he is that he is finally safe. He’s still fearful of other people, but we’re working on it a little bit each day.
